After Donald Trump declared victory in the US presidential election, Americans promised to “escape” to Australia.
American fans of Democratic leader Kamala Harris announced their intention to leave their country of origin on X, formerly Twitter, just after the Republican leader announced himself as the next president on Wednesday night (AEDT).
“I’m here and waiting if anyone has the ‘concept of a plan’ to move to Australia!” Someone wrote.
“I’m so tired of this country,” another person added. I’ll be relocating to Australia.
‘Boarding today boat to Australia to leave America forever (who’s boarding?)’ wrote a third. Someone else wrote.
Australians also considered making jokes about Americans applying for “refugee” status.
One said, “Any US citizens who want to get away from Trump and his gang of criminals are welcome in Australia.”
‘Australia is standing by to receive refugees from the United States,’ this person stated.
In an attempt to assist, a third person looked up the shortest route between the United States and Australia on Google.
