During her recent visit on The Tonight Show, Angelina Jolie explained why she chose to go barefoot.
On Thursday, the Hollywood actress appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about her part as Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s film, Maria. However, the host had to address one matter first.
Fallon said to Jolie, “I noticed that you’re barefoot,” while she was seated by his famous desk. “Did you forget your shoes?”
But everyone was taken aback by the 49-year-old’s response.
She replied, “No, I broke my toe yesterday, and I tried to find a comfortable shoe, but I just decided to not.”
She also talked about how it’s been a while since she appeared on a talk program.
She informed the host, “By the way, I get really nervous on talk shows.” “I haven’t done one in about ten years, and I become really uncomfortable. I really don’t like this.
The celebrity, however, welcomed the discussion and touched on a few subjects, such as her most recent film and her kids.
In response to a question about whether any of her six children—Shiloh, Knox, Pax, Vivienne, Zahara, and Maddox—who she shares with her ex-husband Brad Pitt—would follow in their mother’s footsteps and pursue careers in entertainment, she said, “I think some of them [want to work] off-camera, behind the scenes, but they really, really want to be – especially Shiloh – they want to be private.”
“Just private, not on the thing, not photographed. She went on, “I believe she would prefer privacy above all else.” Because everyone is famous, it must get really complicated. However, they had no say in the matter.
“So some people are more comfortable with public, some people are more comfortable with talk shows,” she continued.
The celebrity was also asked about her unusual backup plan in case acting didn’t work out in other parts of the interview.
“Is it true that prior to acting you were studying to become a funeral director?” Fallon inquired.
“Yes,” Jolie said with assurance. “Doesn’t it make sense though?”
She continued by sharing her opinions on the topic of grieving for a deceased person.
She recalled thinking, “This is not how they should be,” when her grandfather passed away. This ought to be a life celebration. And since I’m at ease with death and don’t fear it, I reasoned that this would be a fantastic job choice for me. I mean, I could improve this. Here, I could do something.”
After hearing her story, Fallon said, “We need more people like that.”
Though I’m sure she’ll continue to be successful doing what she knows best, Jolie noted that she still views funeral directing as her “fallback career” today.
In her most recent project, the actress plays Maria, bringing to life the tale of a well-known opera singer.
Given the response at the Venice Film Festival, Jolie’s portrayal of Maria Callas, a Greek soprano of American descent who was heralded as one of the most well-known and significant opera singers of the 20th century, undoubtedly restored her reputation on the big screen.
Maria will be available on Netflix on December 11 and at a few theaters later this month.
