The saying “money can’t buy you happiness” has a lot of reality, according to Britain’s youngest lottery winner, who is much happier 20 years after frittering away all of her winnings.
When Callie Rogers, then 16 years old, won an incredible £1.875 million with her lucky ticket in 2003, she became the envy of all teenagers in the United Kingdom.
She was earning only £3.60 an hour as a shop assistant at her neighborhood Co-op at the time, so it’s reasonable to say that her triumph changed her life.
According to The Sun, she revealed that she had given birth to her fifth kid in a social media update last month.
On Facebook, she posted a series of pictures of her five-week-old daughter, Navie-Nicola, with the message, “The best five weeks of life loving you our little bean.”
Additionally, in another adorable upload, Callie called the new member her “precious girl.”
Additionally, according to the publication, the British national has fallen in love with Lee Matthews, a 35-year-old male.
After the tumultuous few years that followed her enormous lottery victory, Callie seemed to be much happier with her current situation.
Callie spent half a million dollars on properties for herself and her loved ones after winning her grand prize in 2003. She also spent an extra £550k on vacation, clothing, and tattoos.
Callie then went on another spending binge, scheduling a series of cosmetic procedures, giving the impression that the remainder of her fortune might have been burning a hole in her pocket.
The lottery winner from Workington, Cumbria, also acknowledged that she wasted thousands of pounds by bunging “loans” to friends and family that were never paid back, and she spent £250,000 on a cocaine habit.
Callie, who is currently 37 years old, has previously described how she was “a soft touch” and frequently used by swindlers who merely wished to profit from her good fortune.
She remarked, “Now I realise what they were like,” “I was taken advantage of due of my age. I was involved in numerous phony relationships.
In a 2018 This Morning interview, Callie revealed that having a millionaire status came with a lot of “trust issues” because she was unable to determine who was sincere.
“Not knowing who liked me for me, and having all the stress of all the money…I just wanted to go back to having a normal life,” Callie stated.
But regrettably, her reputation as the youngest lottery winner in Britain persisted, even 16 years later, when she was earning £12,000 annually as a caretaker and renting a £500 monthly pad.
According to Callie’s 2019 interview with the Mirror, “People still ask me about the lottery win all the time,” “You have all that responsibilities at the age of sixteen. You can get the best advise ever at that age.
However, you are unable to listen. I was too young. I changed from a carefree child to an adult overnight.
“It continues to be brought up after all these years. I’m still considering it when I go to job interviews. When I’m going to meet new individuals, I become really anxious.
“I worry about what my new partner’s family or even new friends will think of me. I continue to receive abuse simply for being me.
In essence, the former store assistant believes that while most people consider winning the lottery immediately after graduating from high school to be a dream come true, it wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
“I didn’t want that much money,” she added. For the first time in a long time, I was content and settled while I was in foster care.
“You have no idea what lies ahead of you at sixteen because, thank God, I did not anticipate any of that. I asked the Co-op whether I might return to my previous position.
In order to spare future teenagers from having to go through what she had, Callie was so adamant about this that she urged ministers to increase the National Lottery’s age limit to 18 or older.
The mother now merely hopes that none of her children would ever try their luck on the minimum age, which was introduced in 2021.
In the past, Camelot, the former owner of the National Lottery, claimed to have provided Callie with “extensive support” throughout the years.
According to a spokesperson: “She chose not to use our independent financial and legal advise.
“Our winner’s team, however, provided her with unwavering support and assistance in managing the media attention.” If Callie requests it, we will keep helping her in any manner we can.
