Carol Bryan had to tape her eyelids open after a botched cosmetic operation left her horribly deformed. She was unable to leave her house or even look in the mirror because of the trauma.
One woman said she was “looking like a monster” after undergoing a cosmetic filler procedure that left her with serious disfigurement.
Carol Bryan chose to have a silicone injection procedure done in order to get rid of the creases on her forehead permanently.
Regretfully, the outcomes fell very short of her expectations.
Eventually, her face swelled up so much that she thought she was becoming something she wasn’t—a’monster’, even a ‘alien,’ as she put it.
She was horribly scarred as a result of the swelling getting so bad that her forehead started to collapse and drop over her eyes.
The cause of the issue was identified as the combination of two distinct facial fillers in a single syringe, which was then administered to her face and resulted in a serious reaction.
She frequently covered her face with hats and sunglasses to disguise the damage, and she had to tape her eyes open merely to see in order to go about her everyday life.
“My physical appearance became an asset that opened many doors and became my main source of income as I grew up,” she said, sharing her story.
“I worked in the cosmetics sector and began modeling when I was sixteen years old. I had a wonderful and encouraging family, a successful spouse, and a lovely daughter.
“From the outside looking in, it must have seemed like I had it all, but looking back now I see that my life was lacking so much.”
Carol was convinced to attempt facial fillers in 2009 because she felt under pressure to keep up her beauty.
She considers the choice to be a life-altering event that sent her in a negative direction.
“My face started to swell and contract to the point where, not only did I have to hide from my family and friends, I actually hid from myself, never looking in the mirror,” she disclosed in an interview with The Independent.
“I felt like I had the head of an alien, my forehead so heavy that it fell and covered my eyes so that I could not see unless I taped or held up my forehead.”
After years of trying to get help from several doctors with little success, Carol finally found plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Boyd, who had heard about her situation from Dr. Reza Jarrahy.
They worked together to repair the harm the fillers had caused.
In order to restore some semblance of her facial structure and repair the collapsed skin on her forehead, she ultimately had a torturous 17-hour surgery.
“This team of surgeons truly worked miracles,” she stated, reflecting on the event. I would still be wearing head scarves and covering my forehead to look out of my left eye if it weren’t for their extensive knowledge and experience. I still wouldn’t dare leave my house.”
“Despite all their most careful efforts, however, the initial surgery left me blind in my right eye; there could have been worse complications, so ultimately I am lucky to have only lost half my vision.”
Carol added: “Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that genuine beauty starts on the inside until I was unable to recognize myself. I’ve realized how fleeting appearances may be and how valuable each moment of life is.
