After being rescued and receiving much-needed love and care, an elderly dog that was struggling while stranded in the middle of a canal has had an incredible new beginning ❤️.
On June 16, a Good Samaritan saw a tragic scene: a distraught dog stuck in the middle of a canal, clinging to a submerged shopping cart for support.
Hunter Stribling, an emergency animal medical technician with the Arizona Humane Society, and the Phoenix Fire Department raced to the site because they had no time to waste. Together, they devised a strategy to get to her using an AHS rescue apparatus and a ladder.
The 10-year-old dog, now known as Dorothea, “would have little to no chance of survival” if they had not saved her in time, according to a news statement from AHS. Additionally, they stated that she was “scared but open to receiving help,” but when she was brought to shore, she was “all tail wags,” undoubtedly appreciative of her rescuers. How Dorothea got into that canal and her origins are unknown.
AHS veterinarians examined Dorothea and found that, fortunately, she had only minor wounds and was dehydrated, hungry, and covered in ticks. AHS stated that she was “otherwise great health given the circumstances,” but she also needed dental procedures done to remove some broken teeth.
According to the Arizona Humane Society, Dorothea’s personality started to develop now that she is safe and receiving the love and care she need.
According to a news release from the humane society, “Dorothea was found to be a sweet, loving girl who enjoyed cuddles and attention from humans throughout her month of treatment at the shelter (including a spa day with AHS’ groomer).”
The joyful ending to Dorothea’s story is that she has been adopted and is currently living her finest life in Youngtown, Arizona, with a new family, according to the rescue. In her new forever home, she will undoubtedly be content and peaceful as she ages.
What an amazing tale ❤️ Dorothea’s journey from being stranded in a canal with “no chance of survival” to getting a comfortable forever home We are grateful to everyone who saved her and granted her this wonderful second opportunity.
