In a brand-new 2025 “trailer,” a top Hollywood actor portrays the endearing character’s kid as he grows up in the middle of the 2000s.
Even if a second Forrest Gump movie would be awesome, it could be too hard to match the 1994 original’s level of success.
If you haven’t watched it yet, the title centers on a youngster named Forrest who, despite his flaws and the skepticism of others, finds success in life despite not being the sharpest tool in the shed.
We follow Forrest as he makes his way through life like the rest of us, from playing collegiate football to serving in the army to being a prosperous shrimp fisherman.
Variety claims that despite being regarded as one of Tom Hanks’ greatest films, this inspirational tale has never actually been given any thought as a sequel.
To the dismay of many Bubba Gump fans, the trailer for a potential Forrest Gump sequel is primarily fan-edited and AI-generated.
However, Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of Forrest Gump Jr. in the trailer, which begins with him surveying his mother’s grave, does make it appear very cool.
Seemingly continuing the plot of the original, in which Jenny, played by Forrest Gump Sr., passes away from a terminal illness and leaves their son for him to raise.
The video, which includes some AI-generated banter between the two and some emotional introspection from Chalamet’s character about how intelligent his father truly is, depicts Junior, like his father in the original, striving to find his place in the world.
Fans are obviously excited about the possibility of a sequel, as evidenced by the nearly 1.6 million views this one-minute teaser has received since it was uploaded to YouTube in July.
Unfortunately, it appears that this is the closest thing we will ever have to one.
To put it mildly, the reactions were divided. One user wrote: “Why can’t you let a CLASSIC alone?!”
Another commented: “I checked IMDb and there isn’t a sequel in the works. Give thanks to God.
However, a third person added, “Honestly…this concept would actually be really good,” which seemed to thrill others.
“An intelligent son finding inspiration from his simple father’s outlook on life.”
Another user said, “What’s crazy is that this could literally be its own movie without the Forrest Gump title.”
In your opinion, does Forrest Gump merit or require a follow-up?
