This is the first time a plus-sized contestant has competed in Miss Universe’s 71-year history. The 22-year-old Miss Nepal has made history by displaying her amazing body with confidence. A sizable section of the worldwide audience also voiced displeasure, despite the fact that many people supported her and praised her beauty. She opened up about her experiences in response to these remarks.
She glowed with confidence.
Jane Dipika Garrett said she was pleasantly surprised by how far she had come in the November 2023 competition. She had struggled with low self-esteem in the past and had dreamed of being a model. Her newfound confidence in accepting her own identity was reinforced by the incredibly favorable feedback she received during the competition.
She “did not expect to get that much applause on the stage,” Garrett said. She continued by saying that she was merely taking part to represent her nation and “to represent women all over the world,” and that she “wasn’t expecting anything.”
The 22-year-old claimed that although she had received a lot of acclaim for her stunning appearance from people all around the world, she had also received a lot of negative feedback. She acknowledged that there were some unfavorable incoming messages, including ones that were labeled as “cruel.”
“I see things like, ‘Oh, she’s a whale,’ or ‘Why don’t you go to the gym?'” Jane disclosed. and similar stuff. “It seems as though they are unaware of my story,” she added. They have no idea what I’m dealing with.
The beauty pageant competitor explained that she suffers from polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). This disease is characterized by the ovaries producing more androgens than the average woman produces. PCOS can cause weight gain, irregular menstruation, acne, and excessive hair growth, among other symptoms.
In addition, she said, “that’s also really taken a toll on my mental health and my self-esteem because I thought that I wasn’t good enough or that I wasn’t beautiful enough.” She mentioned that she had recently gained a lot of weight as a result of her ailment.
Garrett, however, went through a process of developing a good outlook and learning to be comfortable with who she is. It’s clear from watching her exude confidence on stage that she has made it through this process of self-acceptance.
