My Chemical Romance released a statement after former drummer Bob Bryar passed away.
According to TMZ, 44-year-old Bryar was last seen alive on November 4 and was discovered dead in his Tennessee home last Tuesday.
When the drummer’s body was discovered in a “badly decomposed” state, animal control was also called to the house to remove two dogs.
Since his guns and music equipment were unharmed, authorities do not believe that foul play is involved, according to TMZ. His reason of death is still unknown.
In a statement to Variety, My Chemical Romance said, “The band asks for your patience and understanding as they process the news of Bob’s passing.”
Between 2004 and 2010, Bryar was the drummer for My Chemical Romance for the longest period of time.
Prior to joining My Chemical Romance during their 2004 tour, he was a sound technician for The Used. He replaced Matt Pelissier, the band’s original drummer.
During some of the band’s most successful years, he joined lead guitarist Ray Toro, bassist Mikey Way, lead vocalist Gerard Way, and rhythm guitarist Frank Iero.
“I left a very good touring gig where I was tour managing and doing sound,” he told Alternative Press in 2016. To join a band that was dirty, had shit gear, a smashed-up, smoking, death-trap van, and was impoverished, I quit that job. They also had a foul odor.
“When I got the offer, I was overjoyed. I felt [MCR] were unique and I wanted to be a part of it even before we recorded “Welcome to the Black Parade.” I wanted to be able to shred with the band every night and contribute to their evolution.”
Following the release of their second album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, Bryar was hired as the band’s permanent drummer.
Six years after joining the band, he departed in March 2010, and the group released a statement announcing his departure.
“This was a difficult decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly,” they said to supporters at the time.
“We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and expect you all to do the same.”
After that, Bryar worked as a tour supporter for other bands before leaving the music business to pursue a career in real estate, according to TMZ.
After splitting up in 2013, My Chemical Romance got back together in 2019 for a reunion tour, which was postponed multiple times because of the pandemic.
