The worlds of One Chicago are going to converge!
PEOPLE can confirm that a crossover event involving Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago Police is imminent. This is the first crossover between the three shows in more than five years.
The episode, which is scheduled to broadcast later in the presently airing seasons of the three shows, was first reported by TVLine. According to reports, a huge explosion would occur at an office building that serves as a hub for the Chicago police, fire, and medical departments.
The teams came together in 2019 while a deadly infection was spreading in Chicago, marking the last time all three shows crossed over. In 2016 and 2018, there were crossover episodes as well.
The last significant crossover event that brought all three worlds together was five years ago, and that was before the epidemic and the SAG-AFTRA strike last year.
The announcement of the upcoming crossover episodes follows a number of changes to the One Chicago franchise before its season premieres in September, including the departure of Dominic Rains, who played Dr. Crockett Marcel, from Chicago Med after five seasons, as confirmed by PEOPLE in June, the departure of longtime co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider after nine years of leadership, and the appointment of Allen MacDonald as showrunner for season 10. Following Rains’ departure, NBC announced that Darren Barnet and Sarah Ramos would join season 10 of Chicago Med as series regulars. Chicago Fire also saw some changes, as Eamonn Walker reduced his series regular role after 12 seasons and Dermot Mulroney took over as the new chief for season 13, and the shocking departure of newcomer Rome Flynn from Fire after just six episodes last season.
A significant shift occurred on Chicago P.D. around this time last year when it was announced that Tracy Spiridakos would be leaving the program after seven years, following the conclusion of season 11.
In the May finale, she said goodbye to Detective Hailey Upton, and she told PEOPLE that she was “definitely feeling all the feelings” about her final episode.
“It was a very, very difficult decision,” she stated. “This cast and staff are really amazing. I could get teary-eyed about it, but after roughly seven and a half years with the show, I honestly simply wanted to see what else is available to me and change things up a bit. Really, that was all there was to it. I simply thought it was time to go more.
