Wanda Dench of Arizona was planning Thanksgiving dinner for her family about nine years ago. Of course, she texted everyone to invite them, including her grandson specifically.

Jamal Hinton, a 17-year-old from Phoenix, received the message instead since the woman’s grandson had lately changed his phone number. He responded by stating that he was not, in fact, her grandson.

 

 

Once the mistake was resolved, Jamal asked the woman if he could still come in jest, and she said yes. This resulted in their first meeting and a selfie that went viral.

 

 

The miscommunication was resolved after the two exchanged photos to verify it. Even though he wasn’t Wanda’s grandson, Jamal really enjoyed the concept of that dinner and asked if he could still go. “Of course you can,” the woman said. It’s what grandmothers do. Give everyone food.
