Outrageous ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ joke Disney cut from movie is finally revealed

Even though Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the most successful films of 2024, the franchise’s new owners couldn’t handle one particular scene.

The ‘Merc with a Mouth’ eventually teamed up with the X-Men’s Wolverine in the third Deadpool movie series, which was released back in July. It was a highly anticipated film that was packed of fan service, easter eggs, and lots of breaching the fourth wall.

The movie’s recurrent subject is that, as a result of Disney’s 2019 acquisition of Fox, both Deadpool and Wolverine are now part of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Ryan Reynolds’s character Deadpool makes jokes about Disney forcing Hugh Jackman to play Wolverine “until he’s 90” throughout the film, and there are numerous allusions to Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios.

Given that Deadpool & Wolverine was the first MCU film to be rated R, it was intriguing to observe how far Reynolds and director Shawn Levy could push the storyline.

In addition, Disney insisted that one joke be removed from the film despite the fact that there was a lot of blood and gore, f-bombs, and sexual gags.

At the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York back in September, Reynolds told the audience that while he was initially worried about seeing “red lines” all over the Deadpool & Wolverine script, he was extremely happy with the final product and referred to Disney and Marvel as “great partners” to work with.

However, he added that Disney had omitted one joke.

Fans now know what the joke was because the script was submitted for an awards contest.

After Deadpool and Wolverine first encounter the other surviving heroes in the Void, the joke would have been spoken. There is a fourth after Elektra, Blade, and Gambit are introduced (their names are coded in the screenplay, probably for secrecy).

Deadpool then inquires as to whether it is Magneto.

Deadpool would have responded, upon hearing that Magneto had been killed: “F***! Why can’t we even afford another X-Man? Disney is quite frugal. With all of this Mickey Mouse shit in my throat, I’m having trouble breathing.”

Why did Disney want it removed, I wonder?

Fans of the film will undoubtedly recall Reynolds’ final statement: “F**k, now Disney becomes cheap? It’s like if Pinocchio stuck his face in my ass and began telling wild lies.”

It is much funnier nevertheless, I believe we can all agree.

According to insiders close to Ryan Reynolds, Disney CEO Bob Iger actually asked for the joke to be taken out of the film rather than insisting on it, according to TMZ.
