The Young and the Restless’ Melissa Claire Egan Praises ‘Amazing’ Former Costar Justin Hartley (Exclusive)

Melissa Claire Egan is overjoyed at Justin Hartley’s rise to fame as a former co-star on The Young and the Restless.

“To witness his success is incredible.” Egan, 43, told Us Weekly in an exclusive interview at the Young and the Restless celebration honoring the show’s 13,000th episode at CBS Studios in Los Angeles last month that “he’s still one of my best friends.” “He is excellent and deserving of all the accolades. He put a lot of effort into earning it.

“I adore the entire plot of Gabriel Bingham’s transformation into Adam [Newman].” When Justin Hartley was portraying Adam, it was revealed that he was actually Gabe, but in reality, he was Adam posing as Gabe, according to Egan. He got a face transplant, and when [my character] Chelsea [Lawson] discovers that this has been Adam the entire time, it was the big surprise. I adore that tale. That seemed like a lot of fun, soapy, and juicy to me.

Since 2011, Egan has played Chelsea in the show. Hartley, Michael Muhney, and Mark Grossman have filled in as Adam Newman, who was Chelsea’s romantic interest before becoming her ex-husband.

Hartley starred in the NBC drama This Is Us from 2016 to 2022 after first appearing on Y&R from 2014 to 2016. His current role is in the drama Tracker on CBS. On the set of Y&R, Hartley met his wife, Sofia Pernas. In 2021, they got married.

Egan told Us that the Y&R family is close-knit, even though not everyone finds love on set.

She remarked, “We’ve all become such good friends.” In real life, we host baby showers for one another. We look out for one another. Here, people genuinely care about one another; we support one another at both the joys and the losses. Being an actor is fantastic, and the storylines are a lot of fun, but the best part is truly the friendships you make.
Egan also spoke about the “lovely” and “amazing” fans of the program, claiming that “hundreds” of them contacted her following Chelsea’s 2022 suicide attempt during season 50 of Y&R.

According to Egan, “people were really honest about how, ‘This happened to my dad two weeks ago,’ or ‘I didn’t realize I was depressed until I saw this episode,'” “And now I’m going to talk to my husband about it, and I’m going to get help,” one individual wrote. It was really meaningful to me.

The actress went on to say that the “mental health story line” had “such a profound response from the fans that it will likely always be [her] favorite” storyline on the program.

Egan also thought back on the day she joined the cast after more than ten years on Y&R.
“I started on 11/11/11. November 11, 2011,” she said. “I think this show is good luck for me.”

The Young and the Restless airs on CBS weekdays at 12:30 p.m.
