After making a surprise “confession” on her newborn infant care routines, a mother of four caught TikTok off guard. Shahnta Hoare, who goes by @hoareboys on TikTok, claims that she doesn’t think infants should be cleaned off after they are born (yep, goo and all), and she doesn’t even think they should be bathed for the first month or so. Hoare really talked about it in a TikTok video that went popular very fast.
As she narrates her story, the mother in the video embraces her newborn baby, Ozzy.
It seems she’s always had some strong opinions on the advantages of “vernix”—the creamy, white fluid that usually covers a newborn’s skin in the final trimester of pregnancy.
Babies normally still have a thick layer of vernix when they are born, but the nurses and/or hospital staff usually remove it within a few minutes of the baby’s birth.
Hoare claims that this occurred with each of her prior children. Not because she desired it to, though.
When she gave birth to her first child, Jackson, the nurses cleaned him up right away before she could intervene. When she gave birth to twins the second time, the same thing occurred.
Hoare regrettably claims that she “didn’t advocate” for herself sufficiently in the birthing room, something she has always felt guilty about.
She therefore expressed her desires clearly when it came time for Baby No. 4.
In the video, she said, “Ozzy did not get wiped of anything.” “Like what you see in that [his birth] video, it stayed on him until it just fell off naturally.”
This is the video that she’s talking about.
He is visibly plastered from head to toe in that creamy, white substance, which she claims has more advantages than most people know.
“Vernix is actually really good to keep on their skin, it’s actually super, super moisturizing – it’s almost a little oily,” Hoare said. “He had it in his neck creases, his ears, fingers, toes – it’s the best.”
Vernix (sometimes referred to as “vernix caseosa”) is beneficial for infants, according to experts.
Since infants consume tiny amounts of it daily while still in utero, it is also believed to aid in the development of a baby’s healthy gut flora in addition to hydrating the skin. Additionally, it can strengthen their weakened immune systems, which will help them fight off harmful microorganisms. Unbelievably, vernix also keeps newborns feeling warmer, according to Dr. Harvey Karp’s website, The Happiest Baby.
As a result, “delayed bathing” has gained popularity. However, it’s not precisely typical to never remove a baby’s vernix caseosa. The World Health Organization advises leaving it on for “at least 6 hours” and “preferably 24 hours” to give kids the full range of its benefits, while Happiest Baby advises parents to wait “a few hours” before giving their children a sponge bath to wash it off. (If you leave it on for too long, it may start to smell and get a little dirty.)
Hoare has her own opinions on the subject, but she doesn’t care what other people think of her.
“When it’s your own baby, you’re like, ‘this stuff is so good,'” she said in the widely shared video, even though it would seem disgusting to some.
She also made it clear that she will still adequately clean her infant anytime he needs a diaper change, even if she doesn’t perform any kind of formal bathing. (Of course, that cannot be negotiated.) She will, however, have to wait a little longer for a full body wash.
Her strong convictions are undoubtedly for the best.
After all, TikTok users haven’t held back when expressing their own thoughts on the subject.

When someone wrote, “I couldn’t imagine anything worse…,”
Another person remarked, “I do not understand some mothers,”
In fact, the entire situation left many people very perplexed.
Someone said, “Is this satire…?”
However, despite the fact that many people were disgusted, many others supported this mother on GIPHY.
“I promise! One mother said, “The smell is crazy.”

For the record, though, she didn’t intend this negatively.
The mother admitted, “I was addicted to it,” “Didn’t bathe my babies until they were all a month old.”
