Tragedy as 74-year-old man killed by bus with reports of ‘severed head’ found on street

‘Establish the complete circumstances of this occurrence’ is what the police claim they are currently working on.

Unverified allegations of a “severed head” discovered on Edinburgh’s streets led to the death of a man who was hit by a bus.

Since then, police have urged people to refrain from posting upsetting images and videos on social media, stating that they “are causing distress to the deceased’s family.”

According to Police Scotland, the 74-year-old was struck by a single-decker bus in the Cowgate neighborhood on Saturday, November 2, at approximately 7:25 p.m.

According to police, a bus in Edinburgh killed a 74-year-old man (PA wire).

Roads in the vicinity were blocked off so that forensic investigators could reach the scene, and residents were ordered to evacuate.

Following the police’s declaration that “there is no risk to the wider public,” the highways are subsequently reopened.

James Delaney, a correspondent for BBC Scotland News, stated: “There were two forensic tents inside, most likely spaced 100 meters apart.

The restaurants and taverns inside the cordon had been shuttered, despite the fact that the Cowgate generally comes alive on Saturday nights.

“We saw about a dozen or so people in white forensic suits, and there were a few guys in suits too who I assume were detectives.”

We also send our condolences to the man’s family and friends,” said Sergeant Louise Birrell of the Edinburgh Road Policing Unit.

“In-depth investigations are being conducted to determine the complete circumstances surrounding this tragedy.

Numerous individuals who were present at the moment have been interviewed by officers, and efforts are still being made to examine both public and private CCTV material.

“Anyone who has not yet spoken to police is welcome to contact us.”

The public has been urged by police to refrain from posting upsetting images and videos on social media (Roy/PA wire).

“Please contact us if you know anything about what transpired.

“Anyone with information is asked to use 101 to contact the police.”

“Please cite Saturday, November 2, 2024, incident number 3395.”

The local area commander, Chief Inspector Trisha Clark, has also requested that, out of consideration for the family, people refrain from posting different pictures and videos on social media.

“We are aware of images and videos that are making the deceased’s family and others who are unintentionally viewing them very distressed,” she said.

To show consideration for his family, we would ask the public to refrain from sharing them and to report them to the appropriate social media site in order to stop them from spreading.

I want to reassure the local community that this was a singular incidence and that there is no risk to the general population, since there has been a lot of conjecture.

“This incident was tragic.” Our road police personnel are still conducting investigations into a crash with the help of local cops.

“Anyone should contact police if they have any concerns or information that could help with the investigation.”

“We received a call at 19:32 on Saturday, November 2nd, to attend a road traffic collision on Cowgate, Edinburgh,” the Scottish Ambulance Service informed LADbible in a statement. One paramedic response unit (PRU), one special operations response team (SORT), and one ambulance were sent to the scene.

Police Scotland has been approached by LADbible Group for comment.
