Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter have “decided to take a break” from their year-long romance (exclusive)

Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter are no longer together.

About a year after they started dating, a source tells PEOPLE that the couple has called it quits on their romance for the time being.

According to the insider, Keoghan, 32, and Carpenter, 25, have decided to take a break because they are both young and focused on their careers.

PEOPLE’s attempts for comment on Tuesday, Dec. 3, were not immediately answered by representatives for each celebrity.

Early in December 2023, Keoghan and Carpenter were observed dining together in Los Angeles, which ignited romance speculations.

It was at a Givenchy show last September when the Oscar-nominated actor and the “Espresso” hitmaker first met during Paris Fashion Week.

Since then, they have been seen encouraging one another on social media and in a variety of endeavors, with Keoghan frequently writing kind remarks on Carpenter’s Instagram pictures. The Saltburn singer even appeared in her “Please Please Please” music video in June and was in the audience when his ex-girlfriend performed at Coachella this past April.

In an October interview with Tracy Smith of CBS Sunday Morning, Carpenter said she used her “not-even-biased opinion” to cast the video, while she acknowledged that having Keoghan seated directly next to her also helped.

“I thought, ‘Who’s the best actor I can find for this music video?’ and And he was sitting in a chair beside me,” Carpenter remarked. “And he was giddy with anticipation.”

Both parties reciprocated the compliments. On The Jess Cagle Show, Keoghan said he was “proud” of Carpenter following the Recording Academy’s announcement of the 2025 Grammy Award nominees on November 8.

The Irish actor remarked, “Brilliant, I know,” in response to her six nominations, which included a song of the year nomination for “Please Please Please.” Incredibly clever. Guys, you’re fucking brilliant.

He went on to say on the SiriusXM show, “No, I’m really, really happy for her, honestly, and I got to get on the phone soon,” before making fun of the hosts for placing him “on the spot.”

He said, “Yes, definite, definite,” as the hosts made a joke about how he likely knew Carpenter’s hit song was going to win a Grammy while he was working on the music video.

“No one I know puts in as much effort at work. I’m amazed by her effort, her dedication, and the standards she sets,” Keoghan continued. She simply understands the vision, especially from being in that music video. She is aware of her desires.
