The owner of Buddy, the star of the well-known “Air Bud” films, Kevin DiCicco, is in terrible shape. He is homeless and on the verge of being evicted from the shelter where he is currently staying.
When TMZ met with DiCicco on Saturday, he told us that he was staying at a shelter in San Diego, but that his 90-day restriction was about to expire, and that he had no idea where he would go next. He’s scared since it’s the end of the line.
Kevin reveals that his next step appears to be living on the streets, which is made more difficult by the serious health issue he is dealing with. Kevin found future dog actor Buddy close to his Yosemite cabin and brought him in back in the day.
According to Kevin, even though he contributed to the creation of “Air Bud”—he is given credit as the character’s inventor in 11 of the films—he never got much money for the wildly successful Disney productions.
Sincerely, KD explains that he went bankrupt and experienced a depressive episode. He goes on to say that he smoked medical marijuana for a while, which he believes contributed to the development of COPD, or chronic obstructive lung disease. Kevin claims that he has never used any other medications.
The Mayo Clinic defines COPD as a chronic lung disease brought on by lung damage. Breathing becomes difficult due to airflow restriction caused by lung swelling and inflammation.
Although the COVID-19 epidemic caused him to lose his job, Kevin claims that after years of therapy, he was able to manage his sadness and even secured a position managing a property in 2020.
According to Kevin, he needs oxygen because of his COPD, and the shelter hasn’t ordered him to leave yet since he needs power for his oxygen concentrator. However, time is running short.
It’s uncertain how KD will be able to use the concentrator without electricity, and Kevin can’t remain much longer. As of this writing, the GoFundMe that Kevin’s friends set up for him has raised roughly $3k of its $200k target.
