Angelina Jolie Goes Barefoot on “The Tonight Show” After Decade Away from Talk Shows: Why She Ditched Her Shoes

When Angelina Jolie appeared on her first talk show in ten years, she made an unexpected fashion statement.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Maria actress strolled across the stage at Studio 6B in Rockefeller Center wearing a flowing black gown and choosing not to wear shoes.

During the Thursday, December 5 broadcast, host Jimmy Fallon asked Jolie, 49, “I noticed that you’re barefoot.” “Have you left your shoes behind?”

“No, I broke my toe yesterday, and I tried to find a comfortable shoe, but I just decided to not,” the Academy Award winner said with a laugh.

Jolie sat in the guest seat next to Fallon’s desk and showed her bare feet with black painted toenails. Additionally, at the start of the interview, the mother of six acknowledged that she was uncomfortable.
She revealed, “By the way, I get really nervous on talk shows.” I haven’t done one for about ten years, and I become really uncomfortable. I really don’t like this.

Jolie, who has twins Knox and Vivienne, 16, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and Maddox, 23, with her ex-boyfriend Brad Pitt, talked about her kids’ passions and attitudes toward the entertainment business.

Jolie told Fallon, 50, “I think some of them [want to work] off-camera, behind the scenes, but they really, really want to be — especially Shiloh — they want to be private.” “Just private, not on the thing, not photographed.” I believe she would prefer seclusion over all else.

The Maleficent actress clarified, “But it wasn’t their choice.” Thus, some people feel more at ease in public, while others are more at ease on talk shows.

“None of my children want to be in front of the camera [at] this time,” Jolie reaffirmed during an appearance on Good Morning America on November 21. They are really private.

She went on to say, “Shiloh is very private,” before going on to say, “They weren’t born with privacy, right? I thus expect that they will be able to enjoy that as they age. Thus, we shall see.

Jolie is promoting her new biography, Maria, directed by Pablo Larraín, in which she plays the title role of opera diva Maria Callas.

Both the Venice International Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival gave the film thunderous standing ovations, including an eight-minute one in Italy that brought Jolie to tears. The film is also garnering Oscar speculation for the star.

Jolie discussed the impact of her late mother Marcheline Bertrand on her life and profession earlier this week when she received recognition for her role in Maria at the Gotham Awards. (After battling ovarian cancer, Bertrand passed away in 2007 at the age of 56.)

“In Maria’s memory, thinking of my mom … for all those who teach and inspire art in others, all the young artists growing up and everyone in this room who celebrates creativity and expression, I am really, really honored to be here with all of you and to be a part of this community,” Jolie said in part.

On weeknights, NBC broadcasts The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon at 11:35 p.m. ET.
