Mike Tyson and Jake Paul both handed suspensions following last night’s big fight

Following their historic bout last night, Mike Tyson and Jake Paul have both been suspended from boxing, but this has nothing to do with breaking any rules.

Tyson, 58, and Paul, 27, squared off in the largest American boxing bout to be held outside of Las Vegas on Friday night.

There is no denying that fans were excited to see the legendary “Iron” Mike Tyson return to the ring for his first professional fight in 19 years, as seen by the roughly 72,000 spectators who packed AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and the estimated 120 million who watched live on Netflix.

But regrettably, it’s safe to conclude that the battle fell short of expectations.

After a slow and, let’s be honest, fairly dull battle that lasted eight two-minute rounds, Paul was proclaimed the winner by unanimous decision.

Similar to the buildup, the fight is still a major topic of conversation on social media, and after the final bell, one little detail has surfaced: both men are now barred from boxing.

No, no. It’s a sanction for the safety of both contestants; no rules were breached or anything.

Thanks to a decision by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which is in charge of the bout, Paul and Tyson are now required to take a break from fighting.

They both received a minimum seven-day suspension, as reported by The Mirror, as a routine precaution to guarantee sufficient recuperation time. There’s more, though. Due to the eight rounds they fought through, the board requires them to take a three-day break for every round, making their total time out of the ring twenty-four days.

In order to protect the athletes’ health, medical disqualifications or suspensions are common in boxing. If the combatants feel healthy enough to return sooner, this can always be challenged in court.

Let’s hope, though, that Paul won’t be back in the ring for a long after last night’s performance. Perhaps Tyson should simply retire for life.

When asked if he would go back to the ring for another bout during the post-fight interview in the ring, Tyson really responded honestly, saying: “I don’t know.” Depending on the circumstances, yes. Not in my opinion.

In other places, a lot of viewers have criticized Netflix on social media sites like X, with many pledging to terminate their memberships.

It was also certain to attract a large number of people because the battle was streamed live on the platform at no additional cost. But in the end, this caused many users to struggle with buffering issues while watching a revolving red circle.
