Nick Cannon Said That He Is Embracing His Mental Health Journey “In Such A Strong Way” After He Was Diagnosed With Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Nick Cannon disclosed earlier this month that he has been diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder, a “mental health condition in which people have an unreasonably high sense of their own importance,” according to the Mayo Clinic.

In an interview with psychologist Dr. Cheyenne Bryant for his Counsel Culture podcast, the 44-year-old celebrity revealed that he had been “clinically diagnosed.”

There is a “spectrum,” Nick remarked at the time, and he had “no problem” with the diagnosis. He added that, other from a “lack of empathy” and “rage,” he can relate to every one of the common symptoms of NPD.

Typical symptoms include feeling that you “deserve privileges and special treatment,” needing “constant, excessive admiration,” and expecting “to be recognized as superior even without achievements.”

Additionally, it is claimed that people with NPD “be critical of and look down on people they feel are not important” and are “preoccupied with fantasies about success.”

“I’ve taken all the power away from the term narcissism because I’ve researched it and I understand it,” Nick stated on his podcast. You can call me anything you want.

In a recent interview with People, Nick openly talked about his recent diagnosis and acknowledged that he needs treatment.

“I kind of always wanted to get tested for it, even though I still don’t really understand it. He told the publication, “I conducted a number of tests.” “ADHD is the diagnosis I received. I have dyslexia even as a child, but I kind of always knew because I’m just a neurodivergent person.

 

“There are a lot of labels out there, but I’m able to accept them and say, ‘Look, I’m healing.'” I need assistance. “Show me,” Nick continued. “I just embrace therapy and mental health in such a strong way.”

He came to the conclusion that “it works to be able to say that I’m an example for others, but also to be healing during the self-process.”

Nick admitted in October that his relationship with pop queen Mariah Carey, whom he married from 2008 until 2014, had negatively impacted his ego.

 

 

Nick remarked, “I would lay up at night thinking, like, ‘Is this who I am?'” on the Ray Daniels Presents podcast. Am I Mariah’s partner? Is my life meant to be like that?

Nick said that he became “comfortable” with Mariah being the primary provider for the couple and maintained that there was “nothing wrong” with being “Mariah’s man.”

 

But after the birth of their twins, Monroe and Moroccan, in 2011, Nick began to feel pressured to fit in with the family.

 

“I’m standing on the corner like, ‘Wait,’ with a handbag and the diaper bag. Being the alpha that she is, she’s killing it,” he remarked. “I think she needs someone like that, but I’m not that kind of guy.”

 

“Honestly, I think Nick and I could have worked it out between the two of us, but egos and emotions got inflamed (which can translate into many billable lawyer hours, and ultimately it did),” Mariah wrote in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, echoing this sentiment.

 

Nick has infamously welcomed ten more children with five different women since his breakup with Mariah.

 

Along with Brittany Bell, he has three children: two-year-old twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir; two-year-old Beautiful Zeppelin; two-year-old Legendary Love; two-year-old Onyx Ice Cole; two-year-old Golden Sagon; four-year-old Powerful Queen; and twenty-three-month-old Halo Marie with Alyssa Scott.

 

In addition, Nick and Alyssa are parents to their son Zen, who was born in June 2021 and was identified at two months of age as having a rare and dangerous form of brain cancer. In December 2021, Zen unfortunately passed away at the age of five months.

 

Bre, star of Selling Sunset, recently told Entertainment Tonight that Nick organizes his schedule around his children and is a “good and present” father to their son.

 

“He does a great job of handling things. We’re all content, therefore I think that’s why nobody ever hears anything. At the time, she said, “We all manage to make it work.” “He’s a really nice guy who cares about people and wants to be there. He’s never going to blow anything off.”

Additionally, Nick disclosed that he intended to spend Thanksgiving with all of his kids, acknowledging to People that the holiday “is very complicated.”

 

He declared, “I’m a busy man on Thanksgiving.” By the end of the day, I’ll be completely booked, but you understand that everyone has a specialty? Some received delicious fried turkey, while others received superb sweet potato pie. Therefore, I am aware that every home should have the items that I truly enjoy.
