“Wicked” moviegoers, ahem. You don’t have to show off your vocal prowess before this week’s movie.
Put on your finest pink outfit. Make yourself look green.
However, at least at AMC Theatres, avoid the temptation to turn the Broadway musical’s movie version into a sing-along.
An advisory being presented before of Friday’s premiere of Part 1 of the anticipated blockbuster states that singing is on the list of things that patrons should avoid doing in theaters.
The 30-second warning, which includes movie clips, states, “At AMC Theatres, silence is golden.” “Stop talking. Don’t text. Don’t sing. No moaning. Don’t flirt. And no name-calling at all. Savor the wonders of cinema.
AMC representative Ryan Noonan told The Indianapolis Star, a publication of the USA TODAY Network, that the commercial is an example of the sporadic policy reminder customized for a particular film.
“Disruptive behavior is prohibited by AMC’s longstanding policy,” he claims. “The WICKED preshow commercial uses the movie’s themes as an entertaining and captivating reminder to viewers not to interfere with others’ enjoyment of the show.”
Before the release of the concert films “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” and “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” AMC, the biggest chain of movie theaters in the world, released less restrictive rules.
During the performances, attendees were permitted to sing and dance, although they were asked not to dance on seats or obstruct other guests’ views. They were also instructed not to record “Renaissance,” to take off any clothing that would obscure the screen for other viewers, and to remember that masks were not allowed unless they were necessary for health and safety.
The way the policy is enforced may differ depending on the area.
According to Izzy Stewart, a supervisor at AMC Castleton Square 14 in Indianapolis, “we have had people sing and dance in previous movies and then it gets loud in there.” It’s not a huge concern if a little girl is singing and doing other things. However, if someone is belting out and nobody can hear them right now, Regarding certain situations, we are forgiving.
