Stranger Things fans think they’ve figured out hidden reference to first ever episode in final season teaser

Fans of Stranger Things believe they have discovered a secret allusion to the first episode of the upcoming season.

By revealing a few of the season five episode titles, Netflix has started giving out spoilers for the biggest original series they have ever created.

The main cast will return for a farewell episode of Stranger Things in the final season, including Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Caleb McLaughlin, and Sadie Sink.

This will be the last battle between Vecna and the Upside Down versus Hawkins’ children and adults, as was alluded to at the end of season four.

Stranger Things’ most recent teaser is typical; the Duffer Brothers’ show frequently reveals subtle clues in the titles of its upcoming episodes before the premiere date.

Teaser for the last season of Stranger Things

“One last adventure begins in the autumn of 1987,” reads the teaser text. According to “Stranger Things 5 coming in 2025,” the episodes will have the following titles:

“The Rightside Up, Sorcerer, Shock Jock, Escape from Camazotz, The Bridge, The Crawl, The Vanishing of [redacted], and The Turnbow Trap.”

Some allusions to the program are more subtle than others, such as Sorcerer’s reference to the show’s ties to Dungeons & Dragons and The Rightside Up’s inversion of The Upside Down.

The redacted name in the second episode title listed is one that fans have taken particular notice of.

This is a reference to the television program’s very first episode, which was called The Vanishing of Will Byers.

According to one Reddit idea, “The missing Wheeler is most likely Holly” is the only clear answer left to them when the name is redacted.

Fans speculate that a young actor named Nell Fisher may portray a recast version of Holly, the youngest sibling of Nancy and may Byers.

Although Fisher’s position has not yet been established, it has been known that they will feature in the final season.

Stranger Things episode title based on fan theories

The disappearance of a Wheeler family member and the fact that their role is significant enough to be mentioned in an episode title also correspond with the fact that they have been filming a surprisingly large number of scenes at the Wheelers’ home, suggesting that they are playing a larger role this season, the theory continued.

A comparable amount of theories have been generated by another title, Escape from Camazotz.

Many have suggested that a Camazotz, which literally translates to “Death Bat,” is a bat-god or entity from Mayan mythology.

However, a big [spoiler heavy] death from season four has been linked to a major return, according to one idea.

Warning: If you haven’t seen Stranger Things season four, stop reading now.
“As we can see, episode 6 is titled Escape from Camazots, and Camazotz is a death bat god creature in Mayan mythology,” they wrote in a post on r/StrangerThings.

Could this be a reference to Eddie, who may have later changed into Camazotz after being ingested by demobats?

“Considering how Eddie was killed, it also makes sense that Camazotz is associated with sacrifice.”

This could be a backdoor for Joseph Quinn to return, even if it is unlikely that he would play a significant role in season five because of a) Eddie’s passing and b) his production schedule for the next Fantastic 4 picture.
